The Ramona Treehouse

The Ramona Treehouse

I had the pleasure of talking with Jake Jacob while I was working on “Treehouses”. He was gracious and helpful. I don’t think my book would have turned out as well as it did without his help and influence. He and his partner Peter Nelson are two of the pillars of the treehouse world. If you want to know more about them and their work visits their website (www.treehouseworkshop.com) .

Peter Nelson and Jake Jacob of Seattle firm Treehouse Workshop have built treehouses worldwide, including the Fabulous Ramona Treehouse which was destroyed during 2007’s San Diego wildfires. The thousand square foot treehouse was built between seven oaks trees and used a combination of steel struts and trees for support. Full of creature comforts, the structure sat on eight acres of land in Ramona, California. A fully functional interior fireplace also served as a pizza oven, creating an outdoor picnic area under the house. Wildfires in 2007 burned the treehouse and all the trees down. Nothing remains now except the stone fireplace.

Longwood Gardens

In addition to the Ramona marvel , Nelson and his team built a sprawling tree cathedral in the style of a Norwegian stave church at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

“Today, thousands of children suffering from the effects of abuse and neglect and they are eligible for Treehouse’s services. Treehouse makes a difference in their lives by helping with school, fulfilling key material needs and paying for extras that are, for most kids, just a regular part of growing up.
